Ethiopian business delegation drawn from private sector and government institutions participated at the first Inter African Trade fair (IATF) held in Egypt.  The Inter African Trade fair took place from 11- 17 December 2018.

ATA, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Coffee and Tea Authority and private sector trade associations took part in the trade fair representing Ethiopia.

On the occasion, Ethiopian delegates successfully promoted the countries potential in Agro-Processing, manufacturing, Agriculture, and exports of commodities. Private exporters seized the opportunity and had a business to business (B2B) meetings with various buyers at Ethiopian pavilion to promote their products and sign contractual agreements for export of sesame, pulses, spices, coffee, meat, and live animals.

The team took the opportunity to visit a Camel market in Egypt. Birgash camel market is one of the biggest camel markets in Africa, where Camels coming from Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, and Djibouti are sold for slaughterhouses across Egypt. The team had a productive discussion with major traders on the spot to revive the legal trade.

Azanaw Tadesse, Ethiopian Ambassador to Egypt, made a closing remark at the end of the trade show. He appreciated Ethiopia’s delegation efforts. “Ethiopia’s presence in this important regional platform is not only impressive, but also a gate way to expose ourselves to the international trade in the agriculture sector and learn,” he stressed.  “I’m committed to further support and strengthen trade between Ethiopian exporters and Egyptian importers on agricultural products,” he added.

The Intra Africa Trade Fair (IATF) was a seven-day trade show featuring the first commercially viable trading platform in Africa. The trade show creates a forum to discuss trade, investment, and market information, and to connect buyers, sellers, investors, and countries. It creates forums for Business to Business (B2B) meetings to advertise their products and services, provide business and marketing information and make business agreements.
